Privacy Notice

This notice explains what personal information we collect through stevenscalesolutions.com, why we collect it, who else handles it, and what rights you have. For site rules see our Terms of Use, and for refunds see our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

The short version

1. Who we are

This website is run by Steven Lewis, trading as Steven Scale Solutions. We use the name "Steven Scale Solutions". In this notice, "we" means Steven Lewis, trading as Steven Scale Solutions. The business is led by Steven Lewis, Owner.

We decide how and why your personal information is used when you contact us or buy from us through this site. The law calls this a "data controller", and it means we are responsible for looking after your information.

2. What we collect

We try to collect only what we need. Here is what that looks like in each situation.

When you use the contact form

The form also has an optional tick box that says "Send me tips and event news. Unsubscribe anytime." It is unticked by default. If you tick it, we record that you opted in. If you leave it blank, we do not use your details for marketing.

The form also has a hidden spam-trap field. Real people never see it, but automated spam programs tend to fill it in. That helps us spot and ignore spam.

When you chat with us on WhatsApp

The "Chat on WhatsApp" button opens WhatsApp with a message drafted from what you typed in the form (your name, the service you picked and your message). When you click the button, that draft text is passed to WhatsApp (Meta) in the link. Nothing reaches us until you press send inside WhatsApp. If you do send it, we receive your WhatsApp number, the messages you send, and any profile details WhatsApp shows us. WhatsApp is operated by Meta.

When you buy a book

Our books are sold through a checkout page hosted by Whop (whop.com). Whop collects your payment details and billing contact details. We do not see or store your card number. Whop passes us order details, such as your name, your email and the product you bought.

Technical basics

Hostinger hosts this website. Like most web hosts, it may log basic technical details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device and the time of your visit.

We do not use these logs to track you across the web. See Cookies and tracking below.

If you send us information in another way, for example by email, we treat it the same way as everything above.

3. Why we collect it

We use your information to:

We will not use your information for anything else unless the law allows or requires it, or we ask you first.

Jamaica's Data Protection Act, 2020 says we need a lawful reason to use your personal information. These are the reasons we rely on:

Marketing is based on your opt-in only. The tick box is optional. You do not need to tick it to get a reply or to buy something.

We also aim to follow the Act's data protection standards. In short, we try to:

5. The service providers we use

We use a small number of outside services. Each one handles your information for the job described here, and under its own privacy policy.

Your data: receives what you type into the form and emails it to us. It may also record technical details such as your IP address and browser type.

WhatsApp (operated by Meta)

Job: runs the "Chat on WhatsApp" chats and the Summit WhatsApp Channel.

Your data: handles your number, the draft text passed in the "Chat on WhatsApp" link, and your messages, under its own privacy policy.

Whop

Job: hosts the checkout page for our books.

Your data: collects your billing contact details and payment details, with its payment partners. It then passes us your order details, such as your name, your email and the product. We do not see or store your card number.

Hostinger

Job: hosts this website.

Your data: stores the site and may keep standard technical logs of visits, such as IP address, browser type and time. Its servers may be in several countries.

Email and customer-record tools

Job: help us reply to people and keep records. These are sometimes called CRM tools.

Your data: hold your emails and the records we keep about enquiries, clients and, if you opted in, marketing contacts.

Each provider has its own privacy policy. Those policies are separate from this notice, and we do not control them.

We share your information with the providers above so that they can do their jobs, and where the law requires it.

6. Transfers outside Jamaica

Your information leaves Jamaica when you use our site and services. Formspree is in the USA. WhatsApp and Meta, Whop, Hostinger and our email and customer-record tools are outside Jamaica or operate internationally.

Jamaica's Data Protection Act has rules for sending personal information to other countries. In short, it should only go to a country that gives it enough protection, with exceptions such as where you consent. Here are the safeguards we rely on:

We cannot control a provider's own safeguards. If you are not comfortable with where your information goes, please contact us before you submit anything.

7. How long we keep it

Our providers keep their own copies for their own periods. Check their privacy policies if you want the details.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information:

No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute safety. Please do not send us passwords or bank account numbers through the form or on WhatsApp.

If someone gets your information without permission (a data breach) and the law says we must report it, we will tell the Office of the Information Commissioner and the people affected. We will do this within the time the law sets.

9. Your rights

You have rights under Jamaica's Data Protection Act, 2020, including:

You can also withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us or using the unsubscribe option in our messages.

You may also ask us to delete your enquiry or marketing details. We will look at every request fairly and tell you our answer. We may need to keep some records, such as tax records, because the law requires it.

How to use your rights

  1. Email info@stevenscalesolutions.com and say what you would like us to do.
  2. Tell us the name and email address or phone number you used with us, so we can find your records.
  3. We may ask you to prove it is you before we share or change anything. That protects your privacy.
  4. We will reply as soon as we can, and within the time the law allows. In some cases the law asks for a request on a set form. If so, we will tell you and help you with it.

To stop marketing, you can also use the unsubscribe option in any message we send, or simply email us. To leave the Summit WhatsApp Channel, unfollow it in WhatsApp.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner of Jamaica. It is the regulator under the Data Protection Act. Its website is oic.gov.jm.

10. Cookies and tracking

We do not use analytics, advertising pixels or tracking cookies on this website. Specifically:

There is one small exception. The intro video saves a tiny note in your browser (called session storage) so that it does not play again. The note disappears when you close the tab. It is never sent to us.

When you leave our site for Whop's checkout or for WhatsApp, those services may use their own cookies under their own policies.

11. How to contact us

For any privacy question or request, email info@stevenscalesolutions.com.
